Take it from an amateur: Jeff Dyment
Age-group triathlete Jeff Dyment offers his thoughts on training and racing in his regular column on triathletemag.com.

  • Treat a day off a week as a workout day! This column is dedicated to the million or so amateur triathletes, who like me, have little chance of ever standing on a podium at a finish line, but whom every day, go out there as healthy participants and try to be the best athlete they can be given the circumstances of their lives away from the sport. These articles contain practical advice for the everyday athlete, gained from years in the sport on the course, during training, and from my own independent research. I hope that they provide you with some insights and help you avoid some of the mistakes I have made in the past, either from inexperience or from general stupidity. I also hope they are mildly entertaining.
  • Bacon, Egg and Cheese on a hard roll please. And don't forget the ketchup!Nutrition on and off the course. Big subject. Huge subject. Little things and reminders do make a difference. I try my best to take the science out of fueling and fluid replenishment during training and racing.
  • 3 Easy Ways to Lower Your Overall TimeTry these 3 tricks to drop your overall time by 3-10 minutes without breaking a sweat, without training harder or longer.
  • HydrationHydration, Dehydration, Hyponatremia? What does this all mean and how does one properly regulate the body's needs to replace fluids and electrolytes lost during training and racing? This synopsis takes some of the current thinking and puts it into English so that the average athlete can understand what needs to be done and how to avoid the common mistakes made by inexperienced triathletes.
