Announcing the Sooke Half-Iron and Sprint Triathlon

Press Release: LifeSport Coaching announced today that Sooke, BC, will host the second stop on the new long distance triathlon series. The Sooke International Half-Iron and Sprint Triathlon will take place on July 22nd, 2007. The event will be staged in the magnificent setting of the rural and urban sides of Sooke, a beautiful ocean-side community located in the western communities of Greater Victoria. The event promises to be a real “rural meets urban” feeling of one of BC’s fastest growing regions utilizing Young Lake, local roads, and the Sooke downtown corridor. This event will feature local and international elite athletes as well as amateur participants from across North America. Lucy Smith, Ironman Competitor stated, “It is great to see the Sooke community get involved and behind this event”. Registration will open on March 24th, 2007 at www.LifeSport.ca
Race Features:
Race is the Half-Iron distance of 1.9km swim, 90km bike, and 21km run
LifeSport Coaching, lead by Lance Watson and Paul Regensburg, the triathlon Olympic coaches from the Sydney and Athens Games, have teamed up with John Botelho, the race director of the 2003 Nike Victoria International Triathlon to organize this international calibre race.
Course consists of Scouts Canada Camp Barnard at Young Lake for the swim, rolling area roads for the bike, and the Sooke downtown streets for the run
Race will support the Scouts Canada Camp Barnard
Race will promote the healthy lifestyle of the world’s three most popular activities; swimming, cycling and running,
Expected participants: up to 500 from across North America
150 volunteers and 1000 spectators
Relay and sprint distance events are also included
Event will also include a fun and family community oriented kid’s run
Heavy involvement and support of local community groups
A large economic impact to the community and international exposure to the Sooke area
