March 25, 2007 -- Press Release: The much-anticipated Lone Star Triathlon Festival comes to
Moody Gardens this weekend. Part of the Aegis Race Series, Lone Star is
Endorfun Sports' first foray in to the Texas triathlon scene, and promises
to be a world-class triathlon event. Nearly 2000 athletes from 35 states
have registered for the three-day festival, which begins Friday evening with
the Expo at Moody Gardens, a First-timers Seminar presented by Texas Iron's
Jamie Cleveland and Andrea Fisher, and Carbo Load Gala at Schlitterbahn
Water Park. On Saturday the Sprint triathlon, which includes almost 200
first-time triathletes, begins with the Zoot swim in Offats Bayou, followed
by the Mavic bike along Galveston's coastline and the Saucony run through
beautiful Moody Gardens. Saturday afternoon at 2pm the youngsters get their
own chance to shine at the Little Lone Star 1k Fun Run. Saturday evening
offers a great Carbo Load Luau at the Terrace Pool in Moody Gardens. On
Sunday the longer distance Quarter-Iron and Half-Iron triathlons provide a
big finish to the weekend festivities. The Half Iron is also the first 2007
qualifier for the HalfMax National Championship.
Moody Gardens offers the perfect backdrop for the festival, which features
an brand new, championship-style set-up, complete with a 12-foot wide,
steel-framed finish arch adorned with flags. "Moody Gardens is a
spectacular venue, and our set-up had to match it. Endorfun Sports has
always been about creating world-class events for the age-group triathlete.
we're very excited to bring that philosophy to Texas," says Keith Jordan,
Lone Star Race Director and owner of Endorfun Sports.
"There is so much that goes in to an event like this, and I feel fortunate to have such great
support from Moody Gardens, The City of Galveston, and all of the local
businesses we've been fortunate to work with" says Jordan.
Endorfun Sports is best known for its flagship event, the Timberman
Triathlon Festival in Gilford, New Hampshire. Jordan and his wife, Claire,
who grew up in Houston, first considered Moody Gardens and Galveston as a
triathlon venue six years ago. "It was shortly after the inaugural
Timberman. We were visiting Claire's family in Houston, and went on a
day-trip to Moody Gardens with our nephew. It had everything required for a
triathlon, and so much more," says Jordan. This weekend the Lone Star
Triathlon Festival finally comes to fruition.
