Lion wins Poweran Alabama

April 16, 2007 -- Press Release: Alisha Lion won the Professional Women’s race at the Powerman Alabama Duathlon in a time of 2:37:57. This long course Duathlon in Birmingham, Alabama is known for it’s hilly bike course and sometimes unpredictable weather and this year was no different. The event consisted of an 8 kilometer run, a 53 kilometer bike leg, followed by another 8 kilometer run. The weather was a cold 44 degrees and windy.

Second place was taken by Gabriela Loskotova of the Czech Republic with a time of 2:42:45, followed by Rachel Sears of California at 2:44:32.  Powerman Alabama is a qualifying race for Powerman Zofingen in Switzerland and the International Triathlon Union Long Course World Championships later this year in Richmond, Virginia. Alisha’s victory qualified her for both events, however she will not attend the Zofingen event to concentrate on Triathlon racing during that time.

This was Alisha’s second Duathlon win this year after her victory in the Desert Duathlon in Phoenix in February. “This is a very satisfying win for me” said Lion. “My run and bike performances are improving and this was confirmation of that. I look forward to my next event, The St. Anthony’s Triathlon to test my swim progress as well against tough competition. Thanks to the race organization- Therese Bynum, Faye Yates, and all of Team Magic- for a great event”.
