Team Timex athletes shine in Tempe

April 16, 2007 -- Press Release: On a gorgeous, but windy day in Tempe, AZ, Juli Fiocca entered her first Ironman, the 3rd annual Ford Ironman Arizona, and came out the other side with new travel arrangements in October as she secured a spot for the Ford Ironman World Championships in Kona, HI.  Her time of 10:55:32 placed her third in the Women’s 35-39 category and finished as the 14th overall woman, including the pro field.  Her bike split of 5:24:06 gave her enough cushion to still come out with a fantastic race even with “a few stops” during the marathon.

Luis Alvarez came across the tape completing his 47th Ironman, but not without incident.  Luis sprained both his ankles (one really bad) and scrapped the bottoms of his feet, when jumping into the water for the swim.  In the medical tent Luis voiced that, “I’ve never used this much time of the race.  Good to finally get my money’s worth.”

The rest of the squad battled with the wind and the dry heat and came away with solid results:

Luis Alvarez- Men’s 40-44  15:39:21
Blake Becker- Men’s Pro- 19th 9:53:12
Jess Draskau-Petersson – Female Pro- DNF (2 flats)
Juli Fiocca- Women’s 35-39- 3rd 10:55:32
Mark Gingrich- Men’s 30-34  10:24:12
