Triathlon and BBQ: Memphis in May this weekend

May 17, 2007 -- This weekend, Millington, Tenn., will host the 25th annual Memphis in May Triathlon Weekend. Saturday morning, athletes will take to the trails for a sprint-distance, off-road triathlon, before taking to the roads for Olympic-distance event on Sunday. Over 1,700 athletes are expected at the start.
New for 2007 is the Memphis in May Amateur Challenge. Race organizers have set aside a $5,000 prize purse for the top 15 (male and female) combined amateur times from both races.
Stealing some of the thunder from the amateurs will be Ironman Champion Chris “Macca” McCormack, who will be gunning for the win in the pro division.
Memphis in May is a month long, city wide festival which includes events such as the World Championship Barbecue Cooking Contest, the Beale Street Music Festival and the Sunset Symphony.
