November 13, 2008– The 10th anniversary of the Israman iron-distance and half-iron distance triathlons will take place Feb. 27, 2009 in Eilat, Israel.
The full-distance Israman will include a 3.8-km swim, 180-km bike and a 42.2-km run. The half-distance race includes a 1.8-km swim, 90-km bike and 21.1-km run. The swim course is in the warm, calm waters of the Red Sea, with water temperatures expected to be between 68 and 72 degrees Fahrenheit. Wetsuits will be allowed regardless of water temperature. The challenging bike course takes racers immediately up a 12km climb along towering sandstone mountains, and back down through desert vistas. The run is mostly flat on asphalt, and takes athletes on a mini-tour around the town of Eilat.
Eilat, the southernmost city of Israel, is situated on the Red Sea’s Gulf of Eilat and is adjacent to both the Jordan and Egypt borders. With a population of roughly 48,000, the thriving metropolis and sister-city of Los Angeles, Calif. has become an international tourist destination for its pristine beaches, renowned diving and pleasant year-round climate.
